We are outraged by, mourn deeply, and unequivocally condemn the horrific actions of Hamas and Israel’s unmitigated response. As of October 30th, more than 1,200 Israelis and 8,000 Palestinians have been killed. (https://www.wsj.com/world/middle-east/israel-makes-major-advance-toward-gaza-city-2339a2b6)
At the same time, settlers, backed by Israeli soldiers, are terrorizing West Bank Palestinians, threatening their lives, and forcing entire Palestinian villages to flee from their homes and land. In addition to the demands in our statement linked below, we call for the immediate release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian political prisoners (whose numbers have doubled in the past 3 weeks). This senseless violence needs to end.
Tikkun magazine and Beyt Tikkun: A Synagogue without Walls partnered with Jonathan Kuttab (a Palestinian Human Rights Lawyer) and Rabbi Esther Azar (an Arab Jew) to write a joint statement that rises above divisiveness and division and calls us to our highest selves. We came together for the purpose of finding solidarity at the height of one of the most, if not the most, intense conflicts between our communities.
